Predators Beat Ducks in Round 1

Second year forward Nick Spaling lifted his team to victory with his first two NHL playoff goals, as the Nashville Predators beat the Anaheim Ducks and won their first ever playoff series.

The Predators won the series in six games (4-2). The franchise had suffered through five previous playoff series defeats since joining the NHL in 1998-1999.

“I’m happy because I think of the resiliency of the group that worked so hard all year, and I’m relieved because there is a little bit of a cloud that we wanted to get to the next level,” said Barry Trotz, the only coach the franchise has ever had. “And if we never got there in this series, I think there would be a little bit of a carry-over.”

It will be a few days before Nashville will learn who their second round opponent is in the Western Conference of the NHL playoffs. The Predators could play Detroit, San Jose, or Vancouver.
