Canucks Beat Blackhawks in Round 1
Finally after two years of falling victim to the Blackhawks in the second-round of the playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks exorcized their postseason demons with a 2-1 victory in Game 7 on Tuesday. They’ll play the Nashville Predators in round 2.
After winning the first three games of the series, the Canucks didn’t make it easy on themselves. Even in game 7 Vancouver played well enough to have closed out the game in the second period. But a brilliant 36-save performance from Blackhawks rookie goalie Corey Crawford kept his team in until a late shorthanded goal from captain Jonathan Toews to send the game into overtime.
In the end, Alexandre Burrows caught a clearing attempt by Chicago defenceman Chris Campoli, dropped the puck to his stick and beat Crawford with a knuckler of a shot.
“We told ourselves that tonight was the night. Obviously, we didn’t make it easy on ourselves. But we stayed with it and it feels better this way.”
